When designing for map displays, engineers need to determine a practical order of how
features overlay so that relevant features are not hidden by other Land Cover or Land Use
areas. TomTom
® recommends the following guidelines:
- Land Use features can always overlap with any other feature (including Land Cover
features).
- Land Cover features never overlap with other Land Cover or Water areas.
- It is best to draw Water on top of any other feature.
If there are islands or other Land Cover features inside Water, then there is a gap in
the water at those locations and there should be no overlap. The following table lists a
recommended order for displaying Land Cover and Land Use features.
